Set up L2TP VPN on Windows 7

This tutorial explains how to set up a L2TP VPN on Windows 7. Follow step-by-step to set up a L2TP VPN for Windows 7.

1: Click on your Windows Network icon and click "Open Network and Sharing Center".

2: Now click "Setup a new connection or network"

3: Select "Connect to a workplace" and then click "Next"

4: Select "Use my internet connection (VPN)"

5: In the "Internet address" box, enter the L2TP VPN server address provided by your VPN service provider. Then in the "Destination name", enter any name for your VPN such as "L2TP VPN". Check mark "Don't connect now" and click "Next"

6: Enter the username and then password provided by your VPN service provider. Check mark 'Remember this password" and click "Create"

7: Click "Close"

8: Now in the Network and sharing center, click "Change adapter settings"

9: Right click on your recently created L2TP VPN on Windows and then open its Properties

10: Select the "Security" tab, and then select "Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol with IPSec". Under "Allow these protocols", select "Challenge Handshake authentication protocol" and "Microsoft CHAP version 2". Then click on "Advanced settings" button.

11: After that, under the "Use preshared key", enter the L2TP preshared key provided by your VPN service provider. Then click OK. Then also close the L2TP Properties Window.

12: Double click on your L2TP VPN

13: Check mark "Save this username and password" and then then click "Connect"

Your L2TP protocol on Windows 7 will be connected shortly. Later you can use the same option to connect and disconnect VPN on Windows.
