Set up PPTP VPN on MX Linux

This tutorial explains how to set up a PPTP VPN on MX Linux. Follow step-by-step to set up a Linux MX VPN using the PPTP protocol.

  • We used the FastestVPN for this tutorial. While you can use any VPN service which offers the OpenVPN protocol.
  • 1: Open terminal on your MX Linux and enter the following commands one by one:

  • sudo apt-get install pptpd
  • sudo apt-get install network-manager-pptp-gnome
  • apt-get install network-manager-pptp
  • 2: Open your MX Linux network settings and click "+" sign

    3: Select "Point-to-Point-Tunneling-Protocol (PPTP)" and then click "Create"

    4: Click "Advanced"

    5: Check mark "Use Point-to-Point encryption (MPPE)" and click "OK"

    6: Enter the following information:

  • Name: Any name for your VPN such as "PPTP"
  • Gateway: Enter the PPTP VPN server address provided by your VPN service provider
  • User name: Enter the username as provided by your VPN service provider
  • Select an option for the password such as "Store this password only for this user"
  • Password: Enter the password as provided by your VPN service provider
  • Click on "Save"

    7: Now your PPTP VPN on MX Linux profile has been created. Click on your network icon and connect to the VPN.

    PPTP protocol on MX Linux has been connected now. Later, you can use the network menu to connect and disconnect VPN on MX Linux.
